GLAM: The Beauty Queen Issue – July 2018
GLAM: The Beauty Queen Issue
Harry Potter provided us with a glimpse of it, but short of wizardry and magic spells, we asked ourselves “What if magazines moved?” This is the question we aim to answer with GLAM Motion Magazine.
We wanted to combine the inherent entertainment value of videos online with the more in-depth exposition normally found only in a print medium. Plus, the idea of a ‘magazine in motion’ could give viewers an insider’s view of how photo shoots and interviews are done. This new format allows people a more intimate look at the process of producing a magazine, including all the hard work that people put behind every glamorous photo and article. It’s hardly effortless, let me tell you.
So here it is. Welcome to the premiere edition of GLAM. Here, we tackle who the “Modern Beauty Queen” is and what she stands for. Stars aligned when we caught up with three of the most recent (and popular) Miss Universe winners, and they, of course, grace our cover feature. This edition’s fashion editorial features three fan favorite queens—Ara Arida, Yvethe Santiago, and Marie-Ann Umali—showing us what today’s queens would wear on the red carpet. Bb. Pilipinas-Globe 2018 Michele Gumabao shares with us her insights on what makes a beauty queen current, while model Josh Barfuss talks about getting noticed on stage in the country’s biggest beauty pageant. And if you want to learn how to look like a winner, Miss Intercontinental 2017 1st Runner-Up Katarina Rodriguez and Miss Universe Philippines 2016 Maxine Medina teach us their make-up secrets to looking glam all the time. Soon, we will also be uploading a substantial interview with the country’s leading beauty pageant training camp, the legendary Aces& Queens, so do keep an eye out for that.
We’d like to thank everyone who worked on this issue, from the talents and models to the amazing stylists who so readily accepted rush bookings. Special mention goes to Empire Studios for the use of their facilities and to Empire.PH and our head, Jonas A. Gaffud, for all the support and all the sage advice. And to risk sounding like a TV Host, none of this would be possible without our generous sponsors for the first edition, UNIQLO and Ultherapy. To use a pageant cliché: I thank you.
Welcome to our first edition, welcome to The Beauty Queen Issue.
